The comparison with the Boxster, the loss of original compactness, and the much-discussed front headlights – dubbed by many as “fried eggs” – fuelled the debate between purists and innovators.
Yet, the 996 turned out to be one of the most successful and high-performing 911s up to that point. While it proved convincing from a mechanical perspective, its aesthetics left opinions divided. Fortunately, with the arrival of the 997, Porsche returned to a more traditional style, especially at the front.
